Following the tragic helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu that caused CDS General Bipin Rawat and other army men, the students of Aligarh Muslim University condoled the loss of the country and carried out a candle march on December 09, from varsity’s Duck Point to Bab-e-Syed.


Earlier Vice Chancellor of AMU Tariq Mansoor had also mourned the demise of General Bipin Rawat. He said ‘’Aligarh fraternity is with the nation in mourning of the death of this brave son of India. His death is an irreparable loss of the country”.


CDS Bipin Rawat died in a Tamil Nadu chopper crash near Coonoor in the Nilgiris on Wednesday. His wife, Madhulika and 11 other army men perished when the Indian Air force’s Mi-17V5 helicopter came down in a heavily wooded area.  Captain Varun Singh, 39, was the lone survivor of the IAF chopper crash is in critical condition and was transported to the Command hospital at Bengaluru.


India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika were cremated with military honor of 17 guns salute at Delhi cantonments —Brar Square crematorium on December 10 afternoon.
Their daughters Kritika and Tarini performed their last rites.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi NSA Ajit Doval, Army Chief MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Air Chief Marshal AVR Chaudhari and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar, External Affair Minister were among those who paid homage to the departed soul at a sombre ceremony. 


Family members of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat have planned to take his ashes to Haridwar on Saturday after cremation rituals in Delhi, his daughter said on Friday.

Along with CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, 11 other armymen- Brigadier  LS Lidder, LT Colonel H Singh, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh Junior, Warrant Officer Das, Junior Warrant Officer Pradeep A, Havildar Satpal, Naik Gursevak Singh, Naik Jitendra Lance, Naik Vivek, Lance S Teja were killed. Their demise shook the nation.
