Turkish actor Ayberk Pekcan, known for his role Artuk Bey in critically acclaimed Turkish historical drama series Dirilis: Ertugrul has passed away after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 51.
The news has sent shockwaves throughout Turkey and to the fans of Ertugrul series.
Peckan starred in many famous series including much popular Valley of the Wolves (Kurtlar Vadisi) series and Resurrection: Ertugrul.
Few months earlier, Pekcan had said in a statement, “Dear friends… The process that started with the doctor I went to with a complaint of back pain has come to this point today. I have lung cancer. The tumor has also spread to the liver and adrenal glands. Unfortunately, this disease did not show any symptoms in its initial stages. The first day of chemotherapy… My biggest support is with my family. So are my friends nearby… I will do my best to regain my health. Keep your health wishes and prayers with you. Stay well…”, the news reported.

Born in 1970, Ayberk Peckan was a civil servant before he went to TV and film acting. He was also a member of Social Democratic Populist Party. In 2001, he resigned as a civil servant and became a film and television actor and settled in Istanbul.
