Bhartiya Janta Party has confirmed the candidature of Priyanka Tibrewal from Bhabanipur constituency against its arch rival in the state Mamta Banerjee.
Priyanka Tibrewal has started campaign in Bhabanipur and said that the TMC is snatching people’s right to live.
Tibrewal who is also vice president of youth wing in state, rose to prominence when she raised alleged post-poll violence and filed a suit in Calcutta High Court. Tibrewal’s effort was propelled a CBI inquiry into the matter giving a high hand to the party.
Declaring herself ‘Bhabanipur’s daughter’, Tibrewal said that “Bhabanipur nijer meyekei chaay” (Bhabanipur wants its own daughter) imitating Mamta Banerjee’s lines “Bangla nijer meyekei chaay” (Bengal wants its own daughter) from her pre assembly poll campaigns in February.
Confirming Priyanka Tibrewal’s candidature from the seat, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, “We have pitted one defeated leader against another. Mamata Banerjee too was defeated four months back by BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. In 1984 Mamata Banerjee had defeated Somnath Chatterjee. Before that who knew the name of Banerjee”, BJP’s mouth piece Republic World reported.

Bhabanipur seat of West Bengal has gone vacant after senior TMC leader Sovandeb Chatterjee resigned as MLA to pave way for Mamta Banerjee’s membership in the state assembly. The bypoll is crucial for Mamta Banerjee as she is yet to elected a member of West Bengal assembly as required for being Chief Minister.
Mamta Banerjee who lost to BJP’s Subendu Adhikari in recent assembly polls from Nandigram and she has to be re-elected to remain in the position of state’s chief minister. Banerjee is required to be elected as a member of legislative assembly by November 5 this year.
Priyanka Tibrewal will file her nomination from Bhabanipur on Monday as BJP cleared her name as an MLA candidate against state chief minister Mamta Banerjee.
Bhabanipur, Samserganj and Jangipur will undergo bypoll election on September 30 and result will be declared on November 3.
