After Virat Kohli stood down at the end of the previous season, the leadership post had become vacant. His decision to resign as the franchise’s captain had come only days after he resigned as India’s T20I captain ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.
All other nine teams had already announced their captains for the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2022, but only Royal Challengers Bangalore ie RCB was the only team which had not announced its captain.
Earlier Du Plessis announced that it will be his last IPL season as a captain. He announced, “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me”.
For the unversed, let us tell you that a total of 10 teams will be seen in IPL 2022. Two more teams — Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans will join the league this season.

The captains of 9 teams playing IPL 2021 including these two teams have been announced. Mumbai Indians will play under Rohit Sharma, Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni, Shreyas Iyer will lead Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals will be captained by Sanju Samson, Delhi Capitals is uner Rishabh Pant, for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kane Williamson will be at the helm, Punjab Kings will be led by Mayank Agarwal.
The new entrants Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans will be led by KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya.
