“However, as the investigation in the case is completed and both the informant/victim girl and the accused are the state’s future assets being talented students pursuing technical courses at the I.I.T., Guwahati”, the Guwahati High Court remarked.

The Guwahati High Court on Monday has granted bail to an IIT student who is accused of raping another student citing that both indulged in the case are highly talented are future assets.
However, the bench of Justice Ajit Borthakur held the accusation of rape againt the IIT student who has been booked under sections 376/328/307/120B of the Indian Penal Code.
While the accused bail against the rape charges to student, the court said, “However, as the investigation in the case is completed and both the informant/victim girl and the accused are the state’s future assets being talented students pursuing technical courses at the I.I.T., Guwahati, who are young in the age group of 19 to 21 years only and further, they are being hailed from two different states, the continuation of detention of the accused in the interest of trial of the case, if charges are framed, may not be necessary”, as live law reported.

As per the case filed by the prosecution, on March 28 at around 9 pm, the accused lured a female student from the same institution to a school premises.
The girl was told by the accused that he has to discuss her responisbilty as the Joint Secretary of the Finance and Economic Club of the students of the IIT, Guwahati.
But the accused forcibly made the girl drink alchohal and attempted rape on her. The girl went unconscious and came to sense only around 5 am next morning.
The girl later underwent treatment and forensic examination at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati.
