Bushra Mateen, a student of S.L.N College’s B.E Civil Engineering department, Raichur has received a total of 16 gold medals from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) setting a new record.

The 22-year-old student at VTU, became the first student to earn as much as 16 gold medals. At the varsity’s 21st convocation event, Bushra, of SLN College received the medals.

She received first rank in the civil engineering branch with an overall cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 9.73.

Bushra Mateen, who has a total of 16 gold medals, is said to have set a new record, which is the first in the VTU’s history. The Chancellor of the University also stated that, before Bushra, the highest number of gold medals won was 13.

Bushra now wants to study for the UPSC civil services examination. Nothing is impossible for her, and she feels that self-confidence and persistence are the keys to success. Meanwhile, people on social media congratulated Bushra on her 16 gold medals.

Praising Bushra on social media, Zafarul Islam Khan, founding editor of Milli Gazette, said “A young Hijabi Muslim woman who graduated as an engineer and won 16 medals for excellence in several fields and for obtaining the highest grades in a row throughout the years of study. The Hijab did not prevent her from the privilege.”

Another social media user Khaled Beydoun, asking his followers to share the good news, said “This Muslim student received 16 gold medals in civil engineering, in #Karnataka — the state in #India pushing Hijab Bans Her story is being suppressed by Indian media because she wears Hijab . **Please RT**.”

Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Minister of Higher Education Dr. C. N Aswathanarayan of the state were also present at the university convocation.

Prof. Karisiddappa, Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, held a press conference to announce the University’s 21st Annual Convocation programme, which was held on March 10th at the Jnanasangama Campus.

Congress leader N.S Boseraju wrote on Tiwtter, “Congratulated & felicitated a bright student from Raichur Bushra Mateen for getting 16 gold medals in B.E. Civil Engineering. This is a great achievement in the history of Kalyana Karnataka.”
