An old image of the then-President of the Hindu Mahasabha, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, shaking hands with a man is going viral on social media with the claim that the man whom Savarkar is shaking hand with is Pakistan’s founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
A Facebook user made this claim on his account saying, “A photo while welcoming Mohammad Ali Jina his best friend and sculptor of Falani Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.”
A similar claim was made by Congress leader Prof.Madhu Patil on his Twitter account. In his tweet, Patil said in the Marathi language, “Photo of Mohammad Ali Jinnah welcoming his best friend and architect of partition Vinayak Damodar Savarkar…”
Many others on social media made the same claims. Links to the posts can be found here, here, and here.

Further, we also found a website — Savarkar.org that substantially tells that Savarkar along with other dignitaries met Mr. Stafford Crips in Delhi.
The website read, “Savarkar left for Delhi on 26 March 1942 to meet Cripps… On the afternoon of 28 March 1942, Savarkar along with Dr. Mookerjee, Dr. Moonje, Sir Jwala Prasad Srivastava, and Advocate Ganpat Rai met Sir Stafford Cripps for about an hour.”
According to the website, “Cripps Mission was deputed by British Parliament in early 1942 to go to India to deliberate with Indian leaders. It was headed by Sir Stafford Cripps, a radical member of the Labour Party and a Minister in Churchill’s War Cabinet.”
Conclusion:
In the viral image, the person whom Savarkar is meeting is not Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, but he is a member of England’s Labour Party and the then minister in Winston Churchill’s War Cabinet Sir Stafford Cripps.
