Three people were briefly arrested on Tuesday including the step-son of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan only to be released after orders from ‘higher authorities’, the police said.

Musa Maneka, the First Lady Bushra Bibi’s son from a previous marriage, and two of his friends were arrested on Monday near Gaddafi Stadium after police discovered alcohol in the car they were travelling in, according to the FIR.

“After receiving orders from the top authority, the three youths, including the first lady’s son, were released the same day. On Tuesday, a police official told PTI that “certain legal criteria, such as personal guarantees from the accused’ families, were met.”

When Maneka was apprehended for possessing liquor, the official said.

“Shortly after a case was filed against them, the Punjab police chief began receiving calls from the top authority”, officer said. “However, after a few hours in jail, the police took no further legal action and released them,” he stated.

Alcohol is forbidden to sell and consume in Pakistan, a Muslim-majority country.

On social media last week, there were rumours of a rift between Prime Minister Khan and his wife.

Bushra Bibi’s close friend Farah Khan said on Twitter that the First Lady was residing with her husband at the Bani Gala home.

“Propaganda concerning the first couple was being circulated through Whatsapp messages,” she stated. “The First Lady lives at Bani Gala in Islamabad, not in my residence,” she noted.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency arrested five people earlier this month as part of a nationwide crackdown on those engaging in a “malicious campaign” on social media against Khan, his wife Bibi, and the Army.
