The students of Aligarh Muslim University on Friday took out a protest march against the custodial death of a 22-year-old Muslim youth in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj.

Hundreds of students gathered at the main gate of AMU and registered their protest and demanded swift and unbiased investigation into the matter.

“The ruling Yogi government is normalising the custodial deaths by mere suspending officers and extending financial supports to the family, but this is not the justice, the student addressing the crowd said.

In a memorandum addressed to PM Narendra Modi, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the NHRC, students asserted that “custodial murders have become another tool to oppress Muslims” and the claims of Uttar Pradesh police that Altaf committed suicide is “full of loopholes”.

The students also alleged the UP Police that the it has created a pressure on Altaf’s family to give a statement favouring to its claims.
