Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has achieved a feat that legendary Indian Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli failed to do at the Lord’s Cricket Ground despite breaking multiple records in cricket.
Lord’s is said to be the mecca of cricket. Every cricketer dream of performing well at this venue as there is a lot of history attached to the stadium. It was first opened in 1814 and has seen several matches being played here.
Batsman and bowlers get their names put on the honours board if they score a hundred or take a five-wicket haul during any Test match played here. There are several legendary cricketers who failed to perform here despite being a legend in their own right.
Shami outshines Kohli and Sachin
Meanwhile, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami achieved something that even his skipper Virat Kohli or former Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t achieve. Shami scored a fifty during the second Test against England in the ongoing five-match Test series.
Team India was in troubling waters when he came out to bat during day five. Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma had just got out with India’s lead weren’t substantial to win the Test. Shami, then, put on a massive partnership with fellow pacer Jasprit Bumrah to frustrate the England bowlers.
In the process, Shami notched up his fifty at Lord’s – second of his Test career. This is a feat that neither Sachin Tendulkar nor Virat Kohli managed to get while batting at the home of cricket. Sachin failed to score a fifty-plus score in Test cricket at Lord’s during his 24-year-long career for India. On the other hand, Kohli’s top score in Tests at Lord’s is 42, which came in the second innings of the ongoing game.
Shami smashed Moeen Ali for a four and a six to notch up his fifty in some fine style. He formed an unbeaten partnership of 89 runs with Bumrah for the ninth wicket and pushed India back in the game. Shami remained unbeaten on 56 while Bumrah managed unbeaten 34 runs in the second innings – the highest score in Test cricket for both.
