Shershah is a war drama based on the celebrated Kargil war hero Vikram Batra. Siddharth Malhotra is playing Captain Batra in the biopic.
The trailer of the war drama, ‘Shershah’, starring Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, has been released on YouTube. The film is all set to release on the OTT platform Amazon Prime on August 12, coinciding with Independence Day. The movie traces the life of Indian Army Captain Vikram Batra, a Param Vir Chakra awardee and celebrated Kargil war hero.
The biopic is directed by Tamil director Vishnuvardhan Kulasekaran and was suppose to hit the floor last year, in July 2020. But like every other thing, the film’s release was postponed due to the COVID pandemic.
Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar launched the trailer and wrote on his Twitter, “What tribute can a reel hero give to a real hero. Except that your sacrifice inspired us for life, Param Vir Chakra Awardee Captain Vikram Batra! Honoured to share my birthday with you. Sharing the trailer of #Shershaah, the story of your heroic sacrifice.”
Through ‘Shershah’, Siddharth Malhotra will be returning to the screen after a two-year-long break. He was last seen in 2019 in Milap Milan Zaveri’s action romance, ‘Marjaavaan’. Film ‘Shershah’s leading lady is ‘Kabir Singh’ famed actress Kiara Advani playing Captain Batra’s fiancé Dimple Cheema which seemingly makes the film another love story that can be extra banality.
Born in Himachal Pradesh, Captain Batra was just 24 when he combatted against the Pakistan Army in the Kargil war in 1999. On July 7, 1999, captain Batra was killed during the war in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kargil. In the same year, on August 15, the then president of India, K R Narayanan, honoured him with India’s highest military decoration Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
Shershah can be the best response to Hotstar’s other high-on-nationalism ‘Bhuj’ starring Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt, releasing on August 13. It will be thrilling to watch the big starrer ‘Shershah’ and ‘Bhuj’ clash on different OTT platforms.
