With the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh as a chief minister of Panjab, the state is all set for a new CM. The Congress leader Harish Rawat said in a press conference that as a part of Congress tradition, the president of the party will decide the chief minster in Punjab.
Amid these political turmoil in the state, one name that is outrunning all other is of Sunil Jakhar.
Former opposition leader in the state assembly for congress, Jakhar is son of former union minister and congress leader Balram Jakhar who has also served as the governor of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
Jakhar who is said to have close contacts with Rahul Gandhi is reported the frontrunner in the chief minister’s race along with two deputies.

According to the reports, the Congress party wants to appoint a non Sikh face for the chief minster post to counter Aam Aadmi Party’s increasing robust groud in the state.
The Party will appoint one Deuputy CM from the Dalit community and other from the Sikh community to present range of representative from across the different castes.
According to the talks among the party people, the Congress does not want to put Navjot Singh Siddhu’s name for the top post citing the potential rebellion fron the Captain himself as he made it crystal cleart that he would oppose Siddhu’s appointment as state’s Chief Minister.
Jakhar is seemingly first choice for the top post as Congress wants a combination a Sikh and non sikh at the helm. Siddhu, who also does not wish to be named as new chief minister just before the election, seems to be satisfied with Jakhar’s name.
Earlier this month, citing the Captain-Siddhu tussle, Jakhar had said that due to the internal strife in the party, “vital process” of taking the state government’s “landmark achievements” to people is getting hampered.
