Deepak Chahar got a quadriceps injury while bowling in the final T20I against West Indies, and Suryakumar Yadav suffered a hairline fracture while fielding in the same game, inflicting India a double blow ahead of the series.
Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar, both white-ball aces for Team India, have been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Chahar got a quadriceps injury while bowling in the final T20I against West Indies, and Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture while fielding in the same game, inflicting India a double blow ahead of the series.
The BCCI issued an official statement on Tuesday to announce the news. The board, on the other hand, has yet to name a replacement.
The statement read, “Fast bowler Deepak Chahar and batter Suryakumar Yadav have been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.”
The statement firther added, “Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries.”
Chahar came off the pitch nursing his hamstring after dismissing the West Indies openers cheaply in the run chase. He was in the middle of his delivery stride when it appeared like he had pulled a muscle in his right leg, so he halted and rested on the ground. The physio rushed to the scene, but the damage had already been done, and Chahar had to withdraw from the game.
It’s unclear whether Chahar will be able to play in the IPL, which is set to begin in the last week of March.
In addition to Jasprit Bumrah, India has Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshal Patel in their T20I roster for the Sri Lankan series.
