Nikhil Advani’s web series takes to the pre-Mughal era when Babur was yet to conquer Indian subcontinent.

The eight-episode web series is based on the novel Empire of the Moghul by Alex Rutherford.

In an interview to Scroll.in, the creator of the series Nikhil Advani said, “What we know about the Mughal Empire is its men, but the highlight of the series is the active role women played in the backroom politics and manipulations.”

He further added to his statement, “Women were responsible for the power wielded and consolidated by the men. Women had the remote controls.”

Shooting for the Empire began in 2018, but due to the pandemic it was halted. Some parts of the docudrama have been shot in Uzbekistan along with Rajasthan and Mumbai.
