Aziz Qureshi, former governor of Uttar Pradesh, has been charged with sedition for allegedly making derogatory comments about Yogi Adityanath’s government, police said on Monday. The FIR was filed after BJP leader Akash Kumar Saxena filed a complaint at the Civil Lines Police Station in the Rampur district on Sunday.
According to Saxena’s complaint, Qureshi made derogatory statements against the Yogi Adityanath government and compared it to a “devil blood-sucking monster”, when he went to visit Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s wife Tazeen Fatma and his children at Azam’s house.
Saxena said in his complaint, “The statement can create tension between two communities and create unrest in the society.”

Former Governor says That His Words Are Misquoted
81-year-old, Aziz Qureshi, a senior Congress politician, formerly served as Governor of and was also in charge of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand flatly denied these accusations, claiming that he merely spoke out against the alleged rise in crimes against the people and that this was a deliberate attempt to derail his political career.
“My words are being misquoted to politically harm me and mislead the public. I had said that there haven’t been as much atrocities in earlier days as today. I haven’t made any remarks against anyone,” Aziz Qureshi said on Monday.
